Unfouling the Well

Our Messiah promises that those who trust Him will receive in their hearts wells of living water springing up to eternal life. He keeps His promise, of course, but then we have the responsibility of keeping the well clean so that what springs up from our hearts carries life to those around us. That’s one way to understand what God means when He says we are to be holy as He is holy.

The Reconstruction of Ourselves

BFB220305 Construction of the Tabernacle - Luyken
Construction of the Tabernacle under direction of Moses. Jan Luyken, 1705, Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.

God knew what He was doing when He established a single standard for good and instructed our first ancestors to abide by it. All the world’s problems originated in their decision to ignore those instructions and set up their own standards. That’s why we really don’t have a unified understanding of what good means. All we have is hope that our Creator will fix the problem in us as He fixes the problems we have cause.

Holy Dogs

BFB220205 Blue and Me
Blue has been my special friend ever since she came to live with us as a pup.

“Holy” is a word we throw around in spiritual talk, but do we know what it means? If we don’t know what it means, then how can we expect to live holy live, or explain to anyone why such a thing might be something they would want to do?

Exodus 25:1-27:19; 1 Kings 5:12-6:13; Ezekiel 11:14-16; John 2:18-22, 4:21-24; 1 Corinthians 3:9-16, 6:18-20; 2 Corinthians 6:14-18; Revelation 21:1-3

Poisoned Well, or Spring of Life?

BFB210911 None But The Brave
In None But the Brave, Japanese and American warriors find a way to suspend their hostility and work together to sustain life. (Warner Brothers 1965 Lobby Card, imaged by Heritage Auctions.)

It seems that all humanity has longed for an end to war and conflict. God promises a time when we won’t learn war anymore, but in the meantime we hone our skills at conflict with every opportunity. Do we have to wait until the Kingdom comes to live in peace, or is there something we can do about that now?

Genesis 1:28; Deuteronomy 30:19; Jeremiah 2:13, 17:5-8; John 4:13-14
