What is Tisha B’Av, and why should you care?

One of those mysterious verses for those who did not grow up Jewish is this one from Zechariah:

Thus says the Lord of hosts, “The fast of the fourth, the fast of the fifth, the fast of the seventh and the fast of the tenth months will become joy, gladness, and cheerful feasts for the house of Judah; so love truth and peace.” (Zechariah 8:19 NASB)

We know from Torah that the fast of the seventh month is Yom Kippur, but what are the others? In this show, we talk about two of them: the 17th of Tammuz (Fast of the Fourth Month), and the 9th of Av (Fast of the Fifth Month). Those dates mark the three-week period known as the Dire Straits, when disastrous things have happened to the Jewish people and the entire nation of Israel throughout history. Such things include the sin of the Golden Calf at Mount Sinai, the destruction of both Temples, the onset of the Holocaust, the expulsion of Jews from many nations, and more. (The Fast of the Tenth Month is Asara B’Tevet, which commemorates the beginning of the siege of Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar.)

Something very significant has happened during the Dire Straits this year: the Temple Mount has become the center of a controversy that threatens the security of Israel and the status quo in the Middle East. That’s why we asked three men who know the situation well to share their thoughts about it.

  • Mikell Clayton of Joined to Hashem is filling in for Al as Daniel’s co-host on this show. He is intimately acquainted with the Land and people of Israel, thanks to his many years of travel there and his extensive contacts in the Land.
  • Hanoch Young of Kol Yehuda brings his perspective as an Israeli and as a Jewish voice who has labored for nearly a quarter century in awakening the people of Ephraim to their identity.
  • Barry Phillips of House of David Beit Midrash in Gloucester, VA and of B’ney Yosef North America has labored for many years to reach the remnant of Israel and see it restored.

In this very special program, you will hear the passion of these brothers in seeing all of Israel restored as God has promised throughout His word. Here also we say farewell to Daniel, who is leaving the show as the Lord leads him to a new assignment.

A Sure Sign of Doomsday?

Here’s what is coming up on The Remnant Road on Hebrew Nation Radio for Monday, July 24:

On August 21, a total eclipse of the sun will cross the United States from coast to coast. This doesn’t happen often. In fact, the last time was July 29, 1878 – and even then it wasn’t a coast-to-coast event.
What does it mean? Is this a sign of judgment? Or is it simply a remarkable celestial event we don’t want to miss?
Dr. Steve Ruskin is well qualified to talk about these questions. As a historian of astronomy, he is experienced at investigating celestial events. His latest book is America’s First Great Eclipse: How Scientists, Tourists, and the Rocky Mountain Eclipse of 1878 Changed Astronomy Forever. In it he documents the excitement of 19th century Americans as they traveled thousands of miles through what was still the Wild West just to see the eclipse. Listen as Steve compares the two events, and shares tips on where to see the Great Eclipse of 2017, and how to do so safely!

Is America Beyond Hope?

Here’s what is coming up on The Remnant Road on Hebrew Nation Radio for Monday, July 10:

“Every generation of Americans has had to fight for liberty and freedom, and now it is our turn.”
Those are the words of Michael Snyder, a friend of The Remnant Road who has shared with us his valuable insights from his observations of world affairs during his previous visits with us. This time Michael drops in to talk about the United States of America – where we are now, where we are going, and what can be done to change the trajectory of the nation to something better for our children.
The real question is if there is hope for America. Michael has written much about this in his blog, The Economic Collapse, and in his books, The Beginning of the End, and Get Prepared Now. He has also investigated the spiritual elements of the question, not just for America, but for the world, in his most recent book, The Rapture Verdict.
You may be surprised at his answer. Far from ducking for cover to ride out the storm, Michael is taking action to make a difference for good. Find out what he’s doing, and how you can help, on this next edition of The Remnant Road.

Nuclear Terror: 72 Years and Counting

Here’s what is coming up on The Remnant Road on Hebrew Nation Radio for Monday, July 3:

The world entered the Nuclear Age with America’s detonation of the first atomic device near Alamogordo, New Mexico on July 16, 1945. Ever since then, the fear lingering in the back of everyone’s mind is a nuclear holocaust. During the Cold War, that fear was fueled by the potential of conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union. Today the sources of nuclear fears have proliferated to include rogue nuclear-capable states like North Korea and (possibly) Iran, and a host of non-state actors like ISIS and Al Qaeda who would gladly make use of such capabilities to achieve their goals.
Robert Gleason knows much about these frightening realities. His 30 years of research into the threat of nuclear terrorism and the possibility of nuclear annihilation have resulted in several books and a starring role in the History Channel’s special, Prophets of Doom. He joins us to share his observations, not only as an authority on the subject, but as a Bible scholar with insights on what the Scriptures have to say about this present Nuclear Age.
Expect another fascinating conversation on a topic that impacts all of us!

Raging Against the Machines

We had a great conversation with Dr. Bob Marks yesterday, June 26 on The Remnant Road on Hebrew Nation Radio. Here’s your chance to hear it again!

What is the truth about Artificial Intelligence? Is it possible that machines could one day displace humans and rule the world? Or is this another case of fear mongering by those who don’t really know better?

Today’s guest does know better, so we will ask him these hard questions. Dr. Robert Marks is a Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Baylor University, specializing in Computational and Machine Intelligence. You may remember him from Ben Stein’s movie, Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed. Dr. Marks was one of the “expelled” scientists – in his case, his university shut down his research web site in response to complaints that he endorsed Intelligence Design, the idea that the presence of life on earth is a the work of a higher intelligence rather than the accident of spontaneous evolution.

Dr. Marks comes to The Remnant Road to talk help us understand the truth about AI. What it is, how it will affect us, what we should be concerned about, and what is just hype. Join us for a very informative conversation, and later check out Dr. Marks’ Evolutionary Informatics Lab web site at www.EvoInfo.org.

The Other Half of the Shema

Here’s what is coming up on The Remnant Road on Hebrew Nation Radio for Monday, June 19:

Everyone knows the first part of the Shema – that greatest of all commandments:

Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. (Deuteronomy 6:4-5 NASB)

What we seem to overlook in our busy lives is this very important second part:

These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.” (Deuteronomy 6:6-7 NASB)

As this Torah Awakening accelerates and families find themselves in transition from traditional Christianity to walking in Torah with Yeshua, our children sometimes get lost in the shuffle. That’s one reason why God created youth ministers! Not to take the place of parents in the spiritual upbringing of their children, but to help them help their own young people become grounded in the Word of God and the God of the Word.

Our guests today know exactly what this means. Jose Ireta comes to the Remnant Road to tell us about Messiah West Coast, where he is Camp Director. In this tenth year of the camp’s operation, the theme is “The Ten Commandments: Going Back to the Basics.”

Along with him are Luke and Kayte Abaffy, producers of The Way: A Documentary. The Abaffys are no strangers to the Remnant Road, but this time they drop by to share their passion for youth!

Join us for an exciting conversation that everyone can relate to!

On the Road with Chaim Goldman

Here’s what is coming up on The Remnant Road on Hebrew Nation Radio for Monday, June 12:

Chaim Goldman is back! When we talked with him several weeks ago, he had just launched Hebraic Home Fellowships for the purpose of helping the Messianic/Hebrew Roots movement grow globally in number, maturity, and impact. How has HHF progressed in the vision to encourage community through the creation, promotion, health, and proper stewardship of independent home fellowships?

That is what we want to find out from Chaim. He is ready to tell us how the Kingdom First Leadership Training is developing. This flagship program is designed to help leaders and facilitators of home and small group fellowships. How is the first iteration of KFLT progressing?

Chaim and his family are also about to embark on a ministry tour across the US. With an itinerary that stretches out for several months, it’s quite possible that they will be in a town near you!

Little Horns and Other Scary Things

Here’s what is coming up on The Remnant Road on Hebrew Nation Radio for Monday, June 5:

If you have read the book of Revelation and don’t understand it, you are in good company. Most readers have little understanding of it, other than a scary realization that it’s all about a world melting under the wrath of an angry God.
Christine Miller can help. Her work, The Revelation of Jesus Christ Revealed, takes an approach that departs from the usual modern interpretation of Revelation. It’s very simple, actually: she takes quite literally the opening words of the book –
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show to His bond-servants, the things which must soon take place; and He sent and communicated it by His angel to His bond-servant John, who testified to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw. (Revelation 1:1-2, NASB)
As Christine explains, the vision shows future history from John’s point of view, meaning from about 96 CE to the second coming of Messiah. Which in turn means that much of the events depicted in Revelation have already happened, being played out through the history of the Roman Empire, Roman Church, Holy Roman Empire, and subsequent powers descended from Rome down to this present day.
How can this be? And is there more yet to be revealed in the final act of God’s judgment on a reprobate world? Listen to our conversation with Christine and find out!

Go on about your business, there’s nothing unusual here

Here’s what is coming up on The Remnant Road on Hebrew Nation Radio for Monday, May 29:

Donald Trump has just completed his first overseas journey as President of the United States. He started in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he was awarded the Order of King Abdul Aziz, concluded a $110 billion arms deal, addressed the Arab Summit, and joined King Salman and President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt in opening the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology. Then he went directly to Israel, where he visited the Western Wall (the first sitting president to do so), met with President Reuven Rivlin and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and conferred with President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority. From Israel, Mr. Trump flew to Rome to meet with Pope Francis, then to Brussels for meetings with European Union and NATO leaders, and finally back to Italy for the G7 Summit in Sicily.

Aside from meeting making a whirlwind tour to meet a number of leaders who normally would not talk to one another in places of great significance to the world’s three monotheistic religions, the trip happened during the week Israel marked 50 years since the liberation of Jerusalem in the Six Day War. Surely that was just a coincidence. Or was it?
President Trump’s journey, coming near the end of his first six months in office, frames our conversation with Michael Payne, author of the blog, A Call to Order (https://acalltoorder.wordpress.com/). When we last visited with Michael, Donald Trump was on the verge of becoming the Republican contender to run against Hilary Clinton. We asked then what a Trump presidency would mean for America, and specifically for Christians, Messianic/Hebrew Roots believers, and Jews. Now that Trump is president, has the condition of America and Americans improved? Is there peace and security? Can the intercessors relax in their prayerful vigilance? Or is it time to redouble our vigilance lest sudden disaster over take us?
If questions like these are running through your mind, you will want to listen in on this edition of the Remnant Road!

In Search of African Israelites

Here’s what is coming up on The Remnant Road on Hebrew Nation Radio for Monday, May 22:

In the 8th chapter of Acts we find the familiar story of Philip baptizing an Ethiopian government official (Acts 8:26-40). The story is so familiar that we rarely think through its significance. Why was this African going to Jerusalem? He had traveled 1,500 miles up the Nile Valley and across the Sinai Peninsula in a chariot just to worship. Seems like a lot of trouble for no apparent purpose – unless this Ethiopian man had some connection to Israel.

Actually, he did. The man was a Hebrew, most likely Jewish, and he was coming to Jerusalem in obedience to the Torah commandment to come up and worship YHVH at Pesach (Passover), Shavuot (Pentecost), and Sukkot (Tabernacles).
This gentleman’s presence in Judea indicates the breadth and depth of Africa’s Hebraic roots. That is the subject we will investigate with Charity Dell, an African-American scholar with a wealth of knowledge about her own Hebrew roots and the Hebraic heritage of many people groups across the continent. Charity will help us understand not only the ancient Israelite connections running throughout Africa, but also how those connections facilitated the advance of Christianity beginning in the earliest years of the church. Expect another eye-opening conversation as we explore another long-obscured path of the Remnant Road!
