The Bible contains so many comforting words of assurance that everything will be all right in the end. It contains a number of frightening words
How are we to discern the times? By understanding God’s Calendar. Often it has been called the “Jewish Calendar” for the simple reason that for centuries Jews are the only people who have used it. In truth, this is the Hebrew Calendar based on the commandments of the Lord. And while there is still debate as to the specifics of this calendar (such as the reckoning of the New Moon at the start of each month), those who want to know the appointed times of the Lord should become familiar with His instructions on how to measure time.
In recent years, Christians have become aware of the wisdom in learning and following God’s Calendar. This is all part of the process of discerning times and seasons so that we are not caught unaware and unprepared in these Last Days. These articles are an attempt to help with that process.
Where the word of a king is, there is power; and who may say to him, “What are you doing?” He who keeps his command will experience nothing harmful; and a wise man’s heart discerns both time and judgment, because for every matter there is a time and judgment, though the misery of man increases greatly. For he does not know what will happen; so who can tell him when it will occur? No one has power over the spirit to retain the spirit, and no one has power in the day of death. There is no release from that war, and wickedness will not deliver those who are given to it. (Ecclesiastes 8:4-8 NKJV, emphasis added)
He answered and said to them, “When it is evening you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red’; 3 and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times. (Matthew 16:2-3 NKJV)
Then He also said to the multitudes, “Whenever you see a cloud rising out of the west, immediately you say, ‘A shower is coming’; and so it is. And when you see the south wind blow, you say, ‘There will be hot weather’; and there is. Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time? (Luke 12:54-56 NKJV)
As to whether we can know if we are in the Last Days, and whether we should watch expectantly for signs of Messiah’s coming, consider this:
“But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.” . . . Although I heard, I did not understand. Then I said, “My lord, what shall be the end of these things?” And he said, “Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand. (Daniel 12:4, 8-10 NKJV)
But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. (I Thessalonians 5:1-6 NKJV, emphasis added)
Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God. Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you. (Revelation 3:2-3 NKJV, emphasis added)
Many have looked for Messiah’s coming, and clearly in this hour the Lord God is releasing greater understanding to those who are paying attention. The Barking Fox hopes to provide some contribution to this effort, and toward that end offers these articles for prayerful consideration.
