The Jewish approach to Scripture is to read through the Torah (the books of Moses: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy) in weekly portions, combined with selections from the Haftorah, which are selected readings from the Prophets and other books of the Tanakh (Old Testament). The Torah cycle begins after the Fall Feasts of Rosh Hashanah (Head of the Year/Trumpets), Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement), and Sukkot (Tabernacles) and goes through the entire Hebrew year to the next occurrence of the Fall Feasts. This year (Hebrew year 5775; Gregorian year 2014-2015) the cycle begins the week of October 12-18.[1] Fox Bytes follows this weekly Torah and Haftorah reading cycle as the basis for commentary and teaching, drawing as well from the Apostolic Writings (New Testament) to inform, exhort, and encourage readers, and demonstrate the unity of the entire Word of God.

One of the things I LOVE about a genuinely messianic worship service is that the Word gets read aloud and then discussed (midrash). At our congregation, our leader gives side notes, leads discussion and directs us to other portions of scripture that have bearing on the subject at hand – he doesn’t really preach, because the Word can speak for itself!! The rest of the service is worship and prayer – so during the entire meeting, the focus stays on YHVH and His Word, rather than on a leader and his ideas. Praise Yah! Thanks so much for posting this – many have no idea of the blessings to be found in reading the scriptures with an organized plan.
