[1] Simchat Torah (Rejoicing in the Torah) is sundown October 10 to sundown October 11.

[2] October 17 is a Shabbat Machar Chodesh, a Shabbat that occurs the day before the first day of a new month (Rosh Chodesh). The traditional reading is 1 Samuel 20:18-42.
